At nineteen, after being laid off from a construction job during college, Chet Kokkeler began taking residential maintenance referrals from his father’s commercial landscape company to stay busy. With a pickup truck, a mower, and a small but growing list of clients, he built the business one property at a time. When a homeowner asked if he could construct a water feature, despite never having built one, he decided to take the project on. Treating it as an opportunity to expand both his knowledge and the company, he approached the task with a willingness to learn and meticulous attention to detail. That approach laid the foundation for the level of work the company is known for today.

By 1999, Scapes Unlimited Inc. began a period of deliberate growth. Chet began hiring employees, purchased the company’s first excavator, and expanded beyond maintenance into full-scale construction. Driven by a commitment to precision, technical expertise, and a desire to build lasting community relationships, the business grew steadily. Glowing client referrals and strong partnerships with local builders and architects helped position Scapes as a trusted name in high-end residential landscape construction. Through the expansion of expertise into irrigation, masonry, and other specialized installations, the company broadened its capabilities and established itself within a higher echelon of detail-driven projects.
